When repairs are no longer enough

If leaks keep moving to new spots or shingles crack whenever a repair is attempted, putting more money into patches can become hard to justify. A free inspection helps you understand whether your Claremore roof has reached that point.

Claremore Roofing Experts helps you plan the new covering and the work beneath it. When the old roof comes off, soft edges, split boards and separating wood panels need attention. Sound decking can stay. A new roof doesn't automatically mean replacing every sheet of wood.

Earlier repairs and extra layers can come into view during tear-off. Any added work needs to be explained and agreed before those areas are covered again, so you understand what changed and why.

How your roof is replaced

A new roof includes the layers you won't see from the yard. Here's how the work protects the house from the wood decking outward.

The wood, flashing and shingles all have a job in your new roof.

  1. Prepare the property

Access, material deliveries and debris removal need a plan before tear-off starts. Vehicles and fragile outdoor items need space away from the work. Mention pets or a home office so the noise and access arrangements can be discussed.

  2. Remove the old roof

The agreed layers come off so the wood deck can be checked. Soft or broken areas need replacement before new roofing goes down. Fresh shingles can't make weak wood hold nails.

  3. Install the protective layers

Underlayment covers the prepared wood. Starter shingles and flashing join the edges, walls and pipe openings to the rest of the roof, with overlaps that carry water outside.

  4. Finish and clean up

Ridge caps, ventilation and roof-edge details complete the new roof. Cleanup includes debris and loose fasteners, while gutters need to remain clear enough to carry the runoff.

Roof replacement costs

For an architectural-shingle replacement covering 2,000 square feet of actual roof surface, published 2026 Tulsa-area guidance gives a total planning range of $9,000 to $13,000, including ordinary tear-off. This is regional context, not a Claremore quote. Complex access, extra layers or damaged wood can change the actual proposal.

Shingles or metal?

Shingle roofing

Architectural and designer shingles give your home different textures and profiles. Impact-rated products add a tested performance option. The chosen shingle still needs matching starter pieces, flashing and correct fastening.

Metal roofing

Metal changes more than the appearance. Panels expand and contract, and their fasteners and flashing have to allow that movement. A panel suited to the main roof may need a different solution on a low-slope porch.

The details that keep water out

A valley brings water from two slopes together. A pipe cuts through the roof. A wall interrupts the rows of shingles. Flashing carries water around each of those openings and back onto the roof surface.

At a sidewall, small pieces of step flashing overlap with each row of shingles. At a pipe, the flashing fits above and below the opening. These details need to be rebuilt into the new roof. Sealant around the visible edge can't correct a wrong overlap underneath.

Roof warranty coverage

A long warranty sounds reassuring, but the covered problem matters just as much as the number of years. Product defects, installation errors and storm damage have different answers.

The cause of the problem
A product warranty addresses specified manufacturing defects. Workmanship protection addresses installation and may come from the installer or an eligible enhanced manufacturer program. Neither should be assumed to cover every later leak.
The meaning of the years
“Lifetime” follows the document’s owner and building definitions. It is not a promised roof lifespan. An initial full-value period may later become prorated, with reduced payment or fewer covered costs.
Records and changes of owner
Keep the installation date, purchase proof and actual warranty. Check registration requirements and any transfer notice deadline when the house changes hands. A warranty does not always transfer automatically.
Getting a problem addressed
Use the claim route in the issued document. Installation defects, incompatible alterations and ventilation-related damage can fall outside product coverage. If the installer is no longer trading, check any separate manufacturer remedy rather than treating the promises as one.

Roof replacement FAQs

Can I stay home during replacement?

Often the main concern is disruption: removal and fastening are noisy, deliveries take space and the outside work area needs to stay clear. The project scope and any safety constraints determine the arrangement. Mention working from home, pets or other needs while planning access.

What happens if rain interrupts the work?

The amount of roofing opened and the available protection need to suit the conditions. Weather can change the work sequence or pause removal. Exposed areas and newly found deck repairs belong in that plan, so house size alone cannot establish a completion date.

Can the new roof go over the old covering?

A recover leaves the old layers and more concealed conditions in place. Suitability depends on the existing assembly, moisture, support, attachment, product instructions and local requirements. Where those do not support a recover, removal is needed.

Does the warranty promise a roof lifespan?

No. Product coverage, workmanship coverage and the service a roof eventually provides are different things. Read the actual coverage and conditions, including maintenance and exclusions, rather than treating a warranty duration as a promised life.

How do I plan for hidden wood damage?

The proposal should explain how additional damaged areas affect the scope and price before those changes proceed. The roof budget guide shows why work concealed beneath the covering can change an early range.

Will a ridge vent cool the upstairs?

A vented attic also needs open intake at the eaves. Room comfort depends on insulation and air sealing as well. With blocked intake and air leaks, a powered attic fan may pull air-conditioned air out of the home.

ENERGY STAR on attic airflow

Can attic vents work against each other?

They can. Mixing exhaust products in the same attic may pull air between roof openings instead of from the low intake. A reroof is a useful time to check the intended air path and clear intake restrictions.
